EACS Governing Board retreat May 2013

The Society’s Governing Board met on May 16 and 17 for a retreat in Zurich Switzerland. Among other topics, the Board discussed the Society’s long-term strategy, organisational development and the education programme. 

At the meeting, the Board has adopted a new mission statement:
The European AIDS Clinical Society is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to promote excellence in standards of care, research and education in HIV infection and related co-infections, and to actively engage in the formulation of public health policy, with the aim of reducing HIV disease burden across Europe.

With the new mission statement, the Society emphasises its intention to improve standards of care in treatment throughout Europe and to engage more actively in public health policy.

European Medicines Agency publishes the European network of paediatric research (EnprEMA) database

The European Medicines Agency is pleased to inform you about the EnprEMA network database.

This database includes research networks and centres with recognised expertise in performing clinical studies in children. It is part of the European network of paediatric research at the European Medicines Agency (Enpr-EMA) and provides easy access to data about each individual Enpr-EMA network. The database is a central resource for researchers and study sponsors seeking to identify research networks for paediatric clinical trials in Europe.

Official statement on discriminatory legislature in Russia

The European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) notes with much concern the discriminatory legislative and police measures that reflect unjustified and harmful discrimination against gay, lesbian and transgendered persons in Russia. Article 6.21 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses allows the government to fine individuals accused of the "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations amongst minors".

EACS selected the non-profit HIV organisation NAM (aidsmap.com) as the official provider of scientific news reporting for the 14th European AIDS Conference. 

NAM’s team of writers reported on key research presented at the conference, publishing news online and sending out four news summary bulletins by email.

Drug shortages in Europe

In the past few years, drug shortages are occurring more and more frequently. The European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG) has done a survey on ARV shortages in 2011 and presented the results at the 13th EACS in Belgrade. Emergency guidance for ARV stockouts was developed jointly with the Society and presented in Belgrade.

A black triangle will start appearing on product information this autumn to encourage reporting of suspected adverse reactions.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has published a video and factsheet in all official European Union languages explaning the meaning of the black triangle.

Interview with the President for the ETW
