In memoriam of Dr Dénés Bánhegyi

Dear EACS members, dear friends,

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Dr Dénés Bánhegyi passed away a few days ago. Dr Dénés Bánhegyi was a pioneer in the AIDS response and a leader in HIV.  He developed the department of Infectious and tropical diseases of Szent László Hospital into a single treatment centre and decentralized HIV and implemented HIV care all over the country. Thanks to him HIV care in Hungary is solid, reliable and state of the art.

He was also well respected among the PLHIV community for his humanity and honesty.  Everyone will remember him not only as a scientist but also as someone who protected and cared for everyone.

Dénés was long-standing member of EACS and EATG. He will be sorely missed by all.

We convey our sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the community.
