ECDC/WHO Joint Meeting on HIV/AIDS Surveillance - Meeting Report

10-11 March 2016

 

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) held a joint meeting on HIV/AIDS Surveillance from March 10-11, 2016 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

EACS President, Prof Manuel Battegay, and EACS Governing Board member, Prof Jens Lundgren, were keynote speakers at the meeting. Prof Battegay's lecture was on increasing collaboration of health authorities with clinicians and how to reach better public health data for HIV and how to support clinicians in their work. Prof Lundgren gave a lecture on how HIV testing has changed during the last decade and how surveillance should adapt to measure testing trends.

HIV Drug Interactions Website – Important news for website and app users

The Liverpool Drug Interactions Group at the University of Liverpool has re-launched their HIV Drug Interactions website. The website is accessible via the same URL (http://www.hiv-druginteractions.org/) as before and features several innovations and improvements including:

  • Improved design and navigation for desktops, tablets and mobile devices
  • Quicker access to drug interactions data

 

APP USERS –All users of the  HIV iChart app must upgrade to the latest version of the app in order to enable continued access to the most up-to-date drug information.

TB 2016

In recognition of the need for greater attention to the global TB epidemic, the International AIDS Society (IAS) is organizing TB2016 -- A two-day conference dedicated exclusively to this infectious disease immediately preceding AIDS 2016 in Durban, South Africa. 

 

The meeting will be co-chaired by Professor Jens Lundgren, EACS Governing Board member and Director of the Centre for Health and Infectious Disease Research at University of Copenhagen, Professor Valerie Mizrahi, Director of the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine at the University of Cape Town and Dr. Haileyesus Getahun, Coordinator at the World Health Organization.

EACS Governing Board member appointed Local Co-Chair of AIDS 2018

Peter Reiss, MD, PHD, member of the EACS Governing Board and EACS immediate past president has been appointed Local Co-Chair of the 22nd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018).

 

The EACS congratulates Professor Reiss for this appointment and wishes him success in the organisation of this international conference.

 

The conference will take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from July 22 to 28, 2018.

The 8th International Francophone Conference on HIV/HEPATITIS will be held in Brussels in April 2016. This conference is an essential hub for French speakers from the developed and developing world. 

 

The EACS is pleased to collaborate with its organisers and grant ten scholarships to healthcare providers, researchers, activists and community representatives involved in HIV and hepatitis, in particular from North Africa and French-speaking African countries, to ensure that they too get the opportunity to be heard.

The 3rd International HIV/Viral Hepatitis Co-Infection Meeting provides a unique opportunity for industry, academic, community and governmental stakeholders to interact and develop constructive solutions together that can support equitable access to modern therapeutics while maintaining sustainable innovation. The meeting will provide research-based evidence to demonstrate the value of curative therapies, it will engage policy makers towards creating an environment that supports their wider therapeutic access nationally and internationally, and will focus on identifying opportunities for increased diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis in people living with HIV (PLHIV), particularly in low and middle-income settings.
