WAVE Working Committees

To actively promote the welfare of women living with HIV in Europe, we work in thematic committees led by WAVE Scientific Committee members. Any member can join the committee according to their interest.

The main activities of the working committees are:

  • Developing WAVE led research (e.g. literature review, data analysis)
  • Preparing endorsement letters for external activities or other forms of promotion for research which are in line with WAVE mission and philosophy
  • Organising medical experience exchange (Peer-to-Peer programme, complementary to other EACS medical exchange programmes)

WAVE IN UKRAINE

Supervisors: Karoline Aebi-Popp,  Justyna D. Kowalska, Sergii Antoniak, Svitlana Antonyak, Marta Vasylyev

Ukraine has the second-largest HIV epidemic in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Almost half of the people living with HIV in Ukraine are women, the majority of them are “late presenters” and at the point of diagnosis have developed several AIDS-defining illnesses.

WAVE has been invited by the clinic of the Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases, Academy of Medical Science of Ukraine to organise a workshop on topics related to women living with HIV.

After the first-ever WAVE workshop in Kyiv in 2019, which was well attended and received excellent feedback, the WAVE workshop has been adapted to an interactive online workshop organised multiple times per year.

WAVE can significantly contribute to improving the quality of care for women living with HIV in Ukraine by being an informal and educational exchange platform for clinicians.
