International Women's Day 2024
In honour of International Women’s Day 2024, we would like to highlight the accomplishments of WAVE (Women Against Viruses in Europe) throughout the years. Since 2018, WAVE has been tirelessly advancing its mission through established research networks, focusing on key areas vital to women's health and well-being. Our commitment extends to providing expert guidance and education, ensuring standards of care for all women, especially those living with HIV. Additionally, we are dedicated to filling research gaps within this population and providing expert opinions to bridge any evidence deficiencies.
From 2019 to 2023, WAVE members authored ten papers, underscoring our dedication to producing high-quality research. We also organised nine online workshops for Ukrainian healthcare providers, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills, alongside three workshops dedicated to breastfeeding, vital for maternal and child health.
In 2024, our focus remains steadfast on addressing the unique challenges faced by migrant women. Collaborating with NGOs, we're developing a risk assessment tool to ensure their specific needs are met. Furthermore, insights gained from a European survey on healthcare perceptions among women will inform our efforts to address women's needs, know their expectations and experience to identify gaps/room for improvement. Additionally, WAVE’s research project on HPV screening and management aims to evaluate current practices, provide suggestions for guideline improvements, and propose changes to screening and management protocols. The project is started with a literature review and will be followed by a survey among clinicians.
Our ongoing series of online workshops, "WAVE in Ukraine" and "Breastfeeding," will continue to serve as invaluable platforms for knowledge exchange and capacity-building. Through these initiatives, WAVE is making significant strides in elevating healthcare standards for women worldwide.
Central to our approach is collaboration with NGOs and community representatives, amplifying the impact of our work and ensuring it reaches those who need it most. By actively seeking women's input through surveys, we ensure that our initiatives remain responsive to their diverse needs and perspectives. This approach does not only foster trust and engagement but also enhances the relevance and effectiveness of our interventions.
As we commemorate International Women's Day, let us recommit ourselves to empowering women, advancing their rights, and championing their health and well-being. Together, we can build a more equitable and inclusive world for all women.
