Lean European Open Survey on SARS-CoV-2 Infected Patients

At the beginning of March, the Lean European Open Survey on SARS-CoV-2 Infected Patients (LEOSS) was launched by the German Society for Infectious Diseases (DGI) and ESCMID’s Emerging Infections Task Force (EITaF). Yesterday, the German Centers for Health Research (DZIF, DZHK, DZL, DKTK, DZNE, DZD) decided in a joint meeting to support LEOSS with combined forces. With the Robert-Koch-Institute and the six Centres for Health Research we thus have top institutions explicitly promoting a nationwide cooperation with LEOSS.

Within one week numerous positive ethics voices at over 40 European locations were received and over 100 COVID-19 cases were already documented into the register (https://leoss.net/statistics).

The LEOSS register is characterized by its collaborative and open character: Numerous medical societies (including the German Society for HIV) have contributed their expertise to the anonymous questionnaire.

The data of the LEOSS register will be made available directly to accredited scientists from the fields of infectiology, epidemiology and bioinformatics. We believe that LEOSS thus represents a significant opportunity to integrate relevant clinical data during the first wave of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and make it available to the general public.

Today we ask you to consider joining our efforts and collaborate with us across Europe:

  • as a citizen: Join our Newsletter or follow us on twitter (@LEOSS_CoV_2) and promote evidence based science around COVID-19.

  • as a medical societies and scientist: Join us and spread LEOSS in your network! In case you a registry strategy has already been established at your place, we would love to cooperate in the evaluation and comparison of the collected information.

All information about LEOSS is available at https://leoss.net or you can email us at info_at_leoss.net.
