Eligibility criteria

The first Advanced HIV Course was first held in 2003 in Montpellier, France. It was organised by a group of four highly motivated HIV experts: Christine Katlama (France), Jens Lundgren (Denmark), Schlomo Staszewski (Germany) and Mike Youle (UK). Forty-two medical doctors from 29 different countries were selected on their credentials.

Between 2003 and 2014, more than 600 young HIV specialists were trained. Every year, half to two-thirds of the participants receive a scholarship covering registration, tuition, travel, and accommodation while the others pay a moderate fee of 150 euros covering registration, tuition, and accommodation.

The course runs over three days and focuses on antiretroviral therapy and comprehensive care for people living with HIV/AIDS. The course is divided between plenary sessions and interactive workshops, taught by the distinguished EACS faculty.

A maximum of 50 participants can be enrolled. Interested participants must be physicians or clinical scientists working in infectious diseases and/or HIV. They may also apply for the ECReCO Course.

Applicants are selected on their CV and involvement in the HIV field. A moderate fee of 150 euros covers registration and accommodation (due after confirmation). A limited number of scholarships is available to applicants from low-income countries.
